Location:

Novotel Brisbane South Bank is on Cordelia Street, just a few minutes walk from Brisbane’s beloved South Bank district and tourist activities. Here you’ll find the Queensland Museum, the Sciencentre with SparkLab for kids, the Wheel of Brisbane, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, as well as the South Bank Riverwalk and parklands, and other tourist activities including the Brisbane sign.

The hotel is just across the road from Musgrave Park, and if the kids need to run off some energy you can borrow soccer and footballs from reception and have a game or a play just a minute from your room. We easily walked into Queen St Mall, and then rode the share scooters back (you can find them in parking spots all over the city).

Our stay at the Novotel Brisbane South Bank:

My 11 year old daughter Emmie and I stayed for two nights.

Our room:

We had two rooms connected by an internal door. One had a huge bathroom and two queen sized bed and desk. The second room had a king bed and large bathroom plus another office/playroom – perfect for a family of four, of five with a rollway.

The Brisbane Novotel has games for kids that they share with the families staying in the hotel. We also had a gorgeous little tent set up in the kids space,  and Monopoly and Connect 4 for us to play. Kids will love this – and the Lego Butler concept is amazing – more on this below.

Check-in:

Check in was a breeze, made easier with the packets of popcorn Emmie and I were given to nibble on arrival.
And it’s not only the popcorn, reception also has a little magnet fishing game for kids to play on arrival (or at any time) where they have to catch a fish in a little barrel and win a prize. It’s so cute.

After check in we went straight to our room, and after the excitement of seeing it, we headed out for the afternoon, walking into South Bank, over the Victoria Bridge and into Queen St Mall. Had we had more time we would have visited the museums and galleries but that is definitely on the list for our next visit.

For the kids:

As well as the above, the Novotel Brisbane South Bank offers so much for kids, including:

Free pool toys and zooper doopers at the swimming pool

It’s such a simple concept with such a huge impact on our stay! As well as the pool toys for kids, the Novotel South Bank Brisbane has a poolside fridge stocked with zooper doopers for everyone. It’s the perfect touch to keep kids happy and there’s nothing better than an ice-block by the pool on a hot day that’s for sure.

Lego Butler Service

The Novotel Brisbane South Bank offers this fabulous service for kids – the Lego Butler! Just buy a Lego kit for $20 and the white-gloved Lego Butler will deliver it to your door on a silver tray. This is an amazing touch and one that we adored. Your kids will go crazy for this – Emmie was so thrilled and it’s a really fun experience for everyone. Plus you’ll get quiet time while they put their Lego together. Genius.

Basketball and outdoor games

There’s a huge grass area on Level 1 – just across from the pool – with a basketball hoop and enough room to play other sports too. If there aren’t balls up there just pop down and grab them from reception.

Cooking class + more

Every weekend the NovotelBrisbane South Bank host activities that align with festivals, events and programs, like science week. While we were there, Emmie joined kids cooking class in the Spice Central Kitchen and Bar and made delicious cookies and that were baked and delivered to our door. In March the hotel will have science activities for kids toiling with World Science Week.

Ride on cars

Ask reception for these amazing little kids ride on cars and have fun spinning around the level one play area.

Games room

The children’s games room is open during the school holidays with lots of games and consoles for kids to play online too.

Spice Central Kitchen and Bar

We loved the Spice Central Kitchen and Bar – and its menu of fresh local produce. We ate here each morning for breakfast and it was the best way to start the day. The coffee is delicious too.

We also had dinner here and it was amazing – Emmie had the Riverine rump steak and I had the grilled squid and Atlantic salmon and they were both divine. It’s very popular so make sure to book your table in advance.

Verdict

We loved this hotel and would return in a heartbeat.
