Where to stay in Waikiki, Hawaii – the Waikiki Beachcomber

Where to stay in Waikiki, Hawaii – the Waikiki Beachcomber

I spent three nights at the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger and honestly I can’t fault it. It was such a fabulous stay in what I reckon is the best part of Waikiki for restaurants, beach access, cafes and coffee. I absolutely recommend a stay here if you’re heading to Waikiki – for a family holiday, for couples and for solos – like me! It was the perfect spot for a solo Waikiki holiday and I can’t wait to get back. I also loved Kauai and you can read all about everything to do in Kauai here.

What to look for in a hotel in Waikiki and why I love the Beachcomber.

Location of your Waikiki hotel

For me, this southern end of Waikiki is the best place to be. Of course if you really want to avoid crowds then head down to the Diamond Head or over to Ala Moana where tourists are a less on the ground. But look, Waikiki is busy and if you want to be in the best part – and not have to walk too much and just chill – then this is it.

Within the one block of the Waikiki Beachcomber you have the beach, the hotel, fabulous restaurants, discount stores, the markets, great coffee and more! You don’t have to walk far to get to what you need, and everything is close by. So if you’re holidaying in Waikiki with family or if you’re solo its really reassuring and feels super safe.

I reckon it’s the best part of Waikiki to stay at.

Close to restaurants, cafes and food spots

Of course this is super important and at this end of town you have everything you need. The Waikiki Beachcomber is directly opposite the Cheesecake Factory and this is a must for at least one dinner while you’re here in Waikiki. I went twice and I wish I’d gone more lol! Please open one in Sydney.

But it’s not just the Cheesecake Factory, there are so many restaurants and cafes in this area from fancy dining to cute holes in the wall selling acai bowls and banana whips.

Cafes and restaurants in the hotel

The Waikiki Beachcomber is not only home to the Maui Brewing Company which has fabulous food, boutique beers and live music, it also has two cafes that serve really delicious meals from breakfast to dinner, and the one downstairs on street level has art activations, live music and open mic nights. It’s so great. If you don’t feel like going out or you’re traveling solo and want to stay close there is something for you.

A cool hotel bar

Yep the Maui Brewing Company is right in the Waikiki Beachcomber so it’s nice and easy to have a wine or a beer in the evening and not have to worry about getting home. It’s super popular so make sure to book a table on your way out to the beach.

Close to the beach

The Waikiki Beachcomber is literally across the road from the beach, and yes it can get a little crowded out the front of the Royal Hawaiian and Outrigger Waikiki but its such a beautiful spot, you can get takeaway cocktails, you can jump onto a catamaran ride right from the beach, you can lash out and hire umbrellas and lounge chairs and lay under the sun, plus it’s just a short wander to and from the hotel. I never had any trouble with having enough space. I only moved once when a big family with kids sat right near me lol. This holiday was (partly) to have time away from children ha.

Swimming pool

The Beachcomber has a fabulous swimming pool with lounges and cabanas, perfect for an afternoon dip or a day by the pool. It’s right next to the café so you can order meals and drinks or wander into the brewery too.

Spacious, modern rooms

The rooms are gorgeous, bathroom is spacious, I mean I could ask for nothing more. The rooms are also beautifully and thoughtfully decorated with acknowledgment of the ocean and Hawaiian and indigenous culture. I had a view over the water and it was gorgeous.

For Waikiki the location is perfect, and I couldn’t have asked for more.
